It’s March, and that doesn’t only mean that a hard-earned springtime’s just around the corner. It also, of course, means one of the all-out pinnacles of America’s sporting year: March Madness.
This year’s NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament swings by our fair city of Hartford, Connecticut: The University of Connecticut will be hosting the First and Second Rounds of March Madness at the XL Center, just a short stroll from The Goodwin. So come join us for some thrilling b-ball within shouting (or shoe-squeaking) distance of our boutique downtown hotel!
March Madness at the XL Center
The XL Center—one of two home courts for University of Connecticut Husky basketball—is the venue for First Round play on Thursday, March 21st and Second Round play on Saturday, March 23rd. (Other First and Second Round action takes place at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa; the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida; and the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.)

The winners of the Second-Round game in Hartford will be proceeding to the Sweet Sixteen, the contests of which take place March 28th and 29th in Anaheim, California; Louisville, Kentucky; Washington, D.C.; and Kansas City, Missouri. The Final Four and Championship climax takes place in Minneapolis at the U.S. Bank Stadium on April 6th and 8th.
We’ll learn the 68 teams competing in this year’s March Madness as well as the specific matchups on Selection Sunday, coming up March 17th.
Husky Basketball at the XL Center
Beyond this year’s March Madness games, you’ve got plenty of opportunities to enjoy some topnotch roundball as a Goodwin guest, given the XL Center hosts many of the Husky home games on both the men’s and women’s sides. The Husky women are the most decorated team in the NCAA with 11 championships (including an impressive 2013-2016 run on top). The men’s team, meanwhile, has four NCAA Tournament titles to its name, the most recent in 2014.
