Meet the Hartford Yard Goats
The Hartford Yard Goats were born only a few years ago: 2016, to be exact, formed a decades-old franchise when the New Britain Rock Cats moved to the Connecticut capital for a new incarnation. The team’s status as the Minor League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies endured the rebirth.
The excellent team logo features a goat chowing down on a baseball bat, but in actual fact the “Yard Goats” name refers not to barnyard critters but to an old term for switcher engines that swapped railcars between locomotives.
The Yard Goats ended their inaugural season third in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division, finishing fifth in 2017 and third again last year. As of this writing, the team’s fourth in the Eastern Division standings, behind the Reading Fightin Phils and ahead of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Upcoming Hartford Yard Goats home games at Dunkin’ Donuts Park include series against the Fisher Cats (May 16-19), the Erie SeaWolves (May 20-22), and the Portland Sea Dogs (May 28-30).
Next month, the Yard Goats will be hosting the Trenton Thunder from June 4 to 6, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies from June 7 to June 9, the Bowie Baysox from June 18 to 20, and the Altoona Curve from June 21 to 23.
