The University of Hartford
Established in 1957, the University of Hartford—aka “UHart”—is a private university with a 350-acre campus in West Hartford, Connecticut. It’s only about three miles away from our historic hotel’s centrally located perch on One Haynes Street in Downtown Hartford.
Boasting a 9:1 student-faculty ratio, the University of Hartford encompasses no fewer than seven different schools and colleges offering 100-plus academic programs:
- The College of Arts & Sciences (the largest)
- The Barney School of Business
- The College of Education, Nursing, & Health Professionals
- The College of Engineering, Technology, & Architecture
- The Hartford Art School
- The Hartt School (performing arts)
- Hillyer College
The university grew out of three founding schools: Hillyer College, the Hartt School (originally the Hartt School of Music), and the Hartford Art School, the original institution, which opened its doors in 1877 as the Hartford School for Decorative Arts. (Olivia Clemens and Harriet Beecher Stowe were among the notable Hartford luminaries who helped establish the school.)
UHart’s degree programs come spread across the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and certificate levels.
UHart also offers its students more than 120 different clubs and activity programs, from the Haitian Culture Association and the Acoustical Society of America to the Hartford Dance Team and the Stop Laughing Mom! improv-comedy troupe.
