Staying with us here at our boutique hotel in downtown Hartford with a sweet tooth?
Well, great news! You’ve got more than a few top-grade dessert venues within deliciously easy striking distance of your room, duplex, or suite here at the Goodwin. Let’s have a look at some of them!
Tastease Mini Donuts (70 New Park Ave)
An entire galaxy of donut options await you at Tastease, not to mention other sweet pastries as well as lunch sandwiches. A piping hot cup of coffee or tea goes mighty fine with a mini donut, but you might consider combining dessert and beverage in the form of Tastease’s “donut shakes”—a devilish concoction of ice cream and donut vanilla or chocolate—or perhaps the more traditional hot chocolate (with whipped cream, naturally).
Salute Restaurant (100 Trumbull St)
Salute is a full-service Italian restaurant and you’ll be well rewarded going for a complete dinner here, but here we’ll spotlight the primo dessert menu. Allow us to get your mouth watering with these Salute offerings: tiramisu, lava cake paired with vanilla gelato chocolate sauce and candied walnuts, New York-style cheesecake dressed in a seasonal macerated berry sauce and Chantilly cream, white chocolate mousse, crème brulee, a plate of biscotti, plus gelato or sorbet. Good stuff, to put it mildly!
Modern Pastry Shop, Inc. (422 Franklin Ave)
Here’s another place where you’ll have trouble picking and choosing a dessert, given the surfeit of tantalizing options. Modern Pastry Shop offers a range of Italian and French pastries plus all sorts of cookie varieties, from chocolate and almond to butter and fruit-filled. Then there are the coffee cakes, cheesecakes, pies, and all manner of specialty cakes, not to mention a slew of imported Italian treats.
Mozzicato DePasquale Bakery & Pastry Shop (329 Franklin Ave)
Speaking of Italian (have you noticed a theme?), a plethora of traditional pastries, cookies, cakes, and breads from the Boot take center stage at the venerable Mozzicato DePasquale, in business since 1908 and still going strong. (They must be doing something right!) Besides the baked goods, you can also enjoy a refreshing dish of gelato or granita.
