The rebirth of The Goodwin isn’t the only recent exciting addition to Hartford’s social fabric—not by a long shot.
A case in point: the arrival last year of the city’s very own Double-A Minor League Baseball team. And with boutique digs at the Goodwin, you’re perfectly situated to take in one of the Hartford Yard Goats’ home games over at Dunkin’ Donuts Park!
Introducing the Hartford Yard Goats
We’re happy to extend a very warm welcome to the Yard Goats, officially created in 2016 when the New Britain Rock Cats came to Hartford from a longtime run not far away in New Britain. (The franchise has quite the history, dating back to an inaugural stint as the Bristol Red Sox in the ‘70s.) As in their previous New Britain incarnation, the Yard Goats serve as a farm team for the Colorado Rockies.
The Yard Goats moniker—derived from an old name for the switcher engines used in yards to transfer railcars between locomotives—was chosen from thousands of “Name the Team” submissions. The other final contenders were equally colorful: the Whirlybirds, the Hedgehogs, the River Hogs, and the Praying Mantis. (That latter name got a high-profile showcase last month when the team adopted its label and logo for a special “What If” Night.)
Catch a Yard Goats Home Game During Your Next Goodwin Stay
There’s nothing like catching Hartford’s very own version of America’s Game over at Dunkin’ Donuts Park, less than a half-mile from our historic spread on Haynes Street. Paying a visit to the brand-new 6,056-seat ballpark for a Hartford Yard Goats home game during your stay at the Goodwin? Downright fabulous.
The evenings of August 30 and 31 will see the Yard Goats hosting the Portland Sea Dogs for a lively home stand. Head for the Yard Goats website to take a gander at the full schedule and to purchase tickets.
Make It a Night at the Ballpark With a Goodwin Getaway
Given our close proximity to Dunkin’ Donuts Park, you can’t beat the Goodwin for bat-and-ball-friendly lodgings in Hartford. (It turns out some local Minor League action pairs well with a meal at Harlan Brasserie or a followup nightcap at Side Bar.)
Here’s wishing the Hartford Yard Goats a long and successful residency here in Connecticut’s capital!
