This is a holiday season unlike any other, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be a wonderful time to visit Hartford, Connecticut and enjoy our boutique—and festive—hospitality here at The Goodwin.
It’s not entirely clear the extent of holiday events that’ll be held in 2020—or just how they’ll be held—given the ongoing COVID-19 situation. But we’ll run down some of what is happening and summarize what often takes place in a “normal” year—and invite you, regardless, to enjoy Downtown Hartford’s finest accommodations with us!
Holiday Light Fantasia in Goodwin Park
One of Hartford’s best-known holiday events is well set up for this unprecedented era we find ourselves in. The Holiday Light Fantasia, which drew more than 100,000 last year, is a drive-through experience, which makes it well suited to 2020’s limitations. A two-mile stretch of Goodwin Park gets absolutely decked out in holiday decor, with displays evoking Christmas, Hanukkah, Three Kings Day, New Years, and other traditions in warm, creative, glittery fashion. A benefit for Channel 3 Kids Camp in Andover, Connecticut, this year’s Holiday Light Fantasia runs from Thanksgiving Day through January 3rd, underway during that stretch from 5 to 10 PM Thursday through Sunday.
Other Hartford, CT Holiday Events & Traditions
For decades, Hartford’s exceptional Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art has hosted its own beloved holiday installation: the Festival of Trees & Traditions, which decks out its elegant spaces with holiday trees, wreaths, garlands, tinsel, and plenty of good cheer. If nothing else, something very much to look forward to in 2021!
Visits by Santa, holiday train rides, and loads of holiday shows also define more typical Hartford celebrations as we ease toward the New Year. The Bushnell, the city’s world-class center for performing arts, is putting on a few virtual holiday events you could enjoy close by in your Goodwin room, including Comfort & Joy at Home with Jim Brickman on December 12 and The Hip Hop Nutcracker the next day.
