The NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament—better known as March Madness, these days—is almost upon us. Sixty-eight college teams, announced on “Selection Sunday” this March 11th, will square off for the national championship, the single-elimination format narrowing the field to the Sweet Sixteen, the Elite Eight, and then the rarefied Final Four facing off in San Antonio’s Astrodome on March 31st ahead of the decisive game on April 2nd.
And of course, the same sort of contest will also be going down on the women’s side of the NCAA Division I, the Final Four and Championship Game taking place at Columbus, Ohio’s Nationwide Arena on March 30th and April 1st.
Here at The Goodwin, we’re always happy to host basketball fans hoping to catch some of the televised March Madness action—not to mention anybody who wants to catch some college hoops in person courtesy of close proximity to the home stadium of the UConn Huskies!
Enjoying University of Connecticut Basketball at The Goodwin
Our boutique hotel in downtown Hartford is just a hop, skip, and a jump from the XL Center, that 15,564-seat arena that hosts many of the home games for both the men’s and women’s Huskies teams. (The others go down at the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in the UConn Sports Center in Storrs, Connecticut.)
The Huskies, of course, boast very impressive records in both men’s and women’s NCAA Division I roundball. They’re the most decorated women’s team, laying claim to a whopping 11 National Championships and the two longest winning streaks in all of college basketball (women or men); they came out on top in the NCAA Tournament each year from 2013 through 2016. The Husky men, meanwhile, hold four National Championships, the most recent earned in 2014 with a win over the Kentucky Wildcats.
