As a guest of ours here at The Goodwin, you’ve got more than one topnotch venue for live performance at your fingertips. One of the very best is the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, a fixture of Connecticut’s capital since 1930.
As usual, there are some fantastic shows on tap for the Bushnell’s William H. Mortensen Hall (its original structure) as well as its Maxwell M. and Ruth R. Belding Theater. Here are a few of the springtime shows you might want to take in—calling our boutique hospitality just a few blocks from the Bushnell your home base for the occasion!
Hartford Symphony Orchestra: Vaughn Williams & Mendelsson (April 12th-14th)
As part of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s 2018-2019 Masterworks Series, Carolyn Kuan will conduct a stirring program featuring Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on “Greensleeves” and Dona nobis pacem as well as Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2, Op. 52a. The performances take place April 12th through the 14th at the Belding Theater.
Whose Live Anyway? (April 13th)
Get ready for some quick-thinking, spontaneously composed hilarity at Whose Live Anyway?, coming to Mortensen Hall on April 13th. Greg Proops, Dave Foley, Jeff B. Davis, and Joel Murray will improvise a 90-minute comedy show based on suggestions from the audience. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the onstage improve—and maybe actually join it!
Shen Yun (April 20th)
Coming to Mortenson Hall on April 20th, Shen Yun evokes thousands of years of Chinese history and folklore through stunning dance and music.
Patti Smith & Her Band (April 27th)
A stone-cold legend of rock-and-roll takes the stage at Mortensen Hall on April 27th: the poet, author, rocker, and punk priestess Patti Smith. It’s a rare chance to see Smith—known these days not only for such iconic albums as Horses but also her hugely successful memoirs Just Kids (2010) and M Train (2015)—in action right here in Hartford.
