Hartford’s Riverfront Fireworks doesn’t actually take place on July 4th (a Wednesday this year), but rather Saturday, July 14th. The festivities flank the Connecticut River on both sides in Great River Park and the Mortensen Riverfront, and include a concert at 7 PM followed up at 9 o’clock by the pyrotechnic show. Watching colorful skyrockets and shells arcing over the shimmering Hartford waterfront is one of the defining summertime experiences in Connecticut’s capital city, and it’s all yours to enjoy just a few blocks from your Haynes Street guest room or suite here at the Goodwin.
Other Riverfront Activities Around the 4th of July
Great River Park has plenty else going on around the 4th of July besides the showstopper fireworks on the 14th. It’s hosting six Thursdays of live music through the Sounds of Summer concert series, which kicks off on July 5th with a show by Espada. Locomotion takes the stage on Thursday, July 12th and Dan Minott & High Voltage Reggae Band provide the tunes on Thursday, July 19th. The music gets underway at 6 PM; in the event the skies aren’t cooperating for an outdoor concert, the show will take place in the East Hartford Community Cultural Center.
Leading right up to the Riverfront Fireworks, meanwhile, is the Riverfront Food Truck Festival, a three-day smorgasbord going down at Mortensen Riverfront Plaza on July 12th, 13th, and 14th. Better than 25 area food trucks will be on hand to supply the fresh-air eats from noon to 8 PM each day of the festival, and there’ll be live music and prizes to boot.
