Valentine’s Day Wining & Dining
At the core of your classic Valentine’s Day date, of course, is an intimate meal, maybe bordering on the fancy. With boutique accommodations at the Goodwin, you’ve got some extremely handy options for delightful dates worthy of the occasion.
On the ground floor of the Goodwin, you can ease into the evening with some happy-hour libations at the Side Bar: a chic, snazzy watering hole sure to establish the proper festive mood.
Just steps from the Goodwin, meanwhile, you’ve got an absolutely first-rate destination for fine (and fun) dining: Max Downtown. For more than two decades, Max Downtown has delighted diners with its dynamic Chophouse fare, and a recent renovation has made it all the more thrilling of a culinary hotspot. From clams to caviar, from seafood platters to note-perfect steak cuts, the restaurant menu claims both breadth and depth. Make a toast to romance with a glass of fine wine or perhaps one of the top-quality Scotches, ryes, bourbons, or other whiskeys from the Max Downtown bar.
Date Outings in Hartford
Combine your stellar Valentine’s Day lodgings at the Goodwin and dinner at Max Downtown with some hand-in-hand arts and culture out and about in Hartford. Tour the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, for instance, or—if you’re making your Valentine’s Day getaway a little later in the week of the holiday—catch “Murder on the Orient Express” at the Hartford Stage, which opens February 15th.
The weekend following Valentine’s Day, you can also had over to the Belding Theater at The Bushnell for the Hartford Symphony’s The Keys to Romance presentation, performed Friday the 16th through Sunday the 18th. The program includes some immortal romantic themes: “Intermezzo” from Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana opera, Fantasy on Bizet’s Carmen for Two Pianos & Orchestra, and more. The Keys to Romance features the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo and conductor Carolyn Kuan, who’ll give a talk about the night’s musical fare an hour ahead of the concert. The Symphony performs The Keys to Romance at 8 PM on Friday and Saturday and 3 PM on Sunday.
