We’ve got some exciting—downright tasty—news to announce here at The Goodwin. Our on-site restaurant is undergoing a transformation under the helm of Chef Tyler Anderson: Restaurant Porrón is being rebranded as Terreno, and in the process the formerly Spanish cuisine is morphing into a thrilling Cal-Italian menu.
Terreno will be opening on February 10th, and we couldn’t be more eager to invite Goodwin guests and off-the-street diners alike to this new incarnation of our hotel eatery!
The Concept of Terreno
The Hartford Courant’s food and dining reporter Leeanne Griffin recently wrote about the switchover from Porrón to Terreno, noting Chef Anderson’s shifted focus in his reimagined establishment on “chef-driven comfort food inspired by Italy.” That’ll include Roman focaccia pizza, pastas, and other dishes that take their cues not only from the Boot but also the sunny fusion cookery of the Golden State, where Chef Anderson’s roots lie.
“Restaurant Porrón was inspired by a love of Spanish-style cuisine,” Chef Anderson said in a statement quoted by the Courant. “And that’s because it was inspired by a trip I took with my wife, and my role as a culinary ambassador to Spain in 2017. […] I continue to be inspired by my family and look forward to letting the menu reflect that again.
“Our team will stay close to our roots,” he continued, “with our farm-fresh New England ingredients guiding dishes that evoke the familiarity of my childhood in California and the flavors of my wife’s Sicilian ancestry.”
Terreno is one of a number of top-quality culinary ventures overseen by Chef Anderson, who’s been nominated for the James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chef: Northeast” award six times and who competed in Season 15 of Bravo’s Top Chef.
Bar Piña & the Donut Shop
Meanwhile, The Goodwin’s Bar Piña, which serves as a donut shop by day and a cocktail lounge by night, will stay open in its current form during the restaurant’s metamorphosis. Bar Piña’s one of the best places in the Connecticut capital to grab a drink and some bites with friends or colleagues, and it will continue to be so as Terreno’s California-inflected, Italian-informed gastronomy steps into the spotlight. The combination of gourmet restaurant, snazzy bar, and quite-irresistible donut emporium makes The Goodwin a magnet for foodies, socialites, and anybody looking for a lively, inviting, and delicious hangout in Hartford.
Needless to say, guests at our historic hotel definitely appreciate the on-site wining and dining on offer, and we’re sure they’re going to love Chef Anderson’s new creation—as will any and all Hartford diners in general!

Randy Salvatore, founder/owner of RMS Companies that runs our hotel, said in the Courant article, “I am so excited that Tyler Anderson continues to share his visions and culinary talents with the restaurant, lounge, and meeting venues at The Goodwin Hotel. This will continue to elevate the dining experience for our guests at The Goodwin, residents of the city, and employees from Hartford and all of the surrounding areas.”
